Logs

What really is logs?
Do you think this is an important aspect of maths?
How is logs related to exp?
What is the basic strategy in logs?

  1. logs is jus and easy way to represent data as a straight line graph it is used in everyday life. i think exp is related to it because it has powers

  2. what do you mean by 'logs represent data as a straight line graph'? can you plz clarify, and how is logs and graphs related?

  3. To me i think logs is used to turn curve graphs into straight line graphs which can be simpler for us.

  4. I also the basic strategy in logs is to bring the equations as either in the exponent form or the logs form.

  5. oh yeah i just remember miss saying that! logs are really used to turn curves into straight lines, because straight lines are always simpler to deal with! thanks

  6. so does anyone know what "the basic strategy in logs" is. i think its that 2^3=8 thing we do before every problem we start. wat are your thoughts on it?

  7. to me the basic stratergy is to simplify the logs equation to express a value which is represented by a letter of the alaphabet.and i think logs is also powers or exponent also jus in a different form an a different way of expressing it.

  8. logs is the power jus as in exponent.the exponent is represented using logs instead of power.also since the log is the power or exponent then it must hav a base number which the exponent or log is the power of.

  9. i think it is an important aspect of maths as it makes exponent a simplier form to work with so that you wont get confused.does any one share the same view?

  10. i think exponents are actually used to make logs simplier! not the other way around. does anyone disagree? correct me if im wrong plz

  11. i disagree. logs make exponents simpler for the fact that if you have a number being raised to an unknown power to give a value, it would be easier to use logs to find that unknown power

  12. i still don't see why we would need to change a curve graph into a staight graph. whats so important about doing that?

  13. well getto celeb if u are doing a lab and the lab asks you to find g acc due to gravity for that graph how will u get it out. rem you cant find the gradient of a curve and it wuold be alot easier if u had a stright line graph that why u use logs

  14. it doesnt really matter if logs make exponent simpler or the other way around which ever way u find easier to me

  15. ok i think i see what your talking aboout renjisan.

  16. Logs is the power..and an exponent.it is an important aspect cuz it simplifies numbers being very big to small using de base 10..logs can turn a curve as miss says into a straight line ..making it easier to interpret since to find a gradient, it is a change from one pt to another and wid a curve u hav many gradients so just turn it into a straight line..the basic strategy i believe in logs is 2^3 = 8 since it gives log base 2 8 = 3 which is the log ...

  17. Logs is the power that a base is raised to in order to get a number

    2^3 = 8 log base2 8 = 3

  18. Logs is very important in mathematics because they help remove powers and they help change a curve graph to a straight one.

  19. I agree wid u Darky...that logs help remove powers ...dat is y exponent and logs relate.

Logs can change a curve graph into a straight line by using y = mx + c.

  20. Yes i agree that logs can turn curve graphs to straight line graph but why is it really necessary to do that?

  21. I strongly agree with "darky" and "colour me orange again"
