Intersection of two straight lines

Can a graph consist of more than one straight lines?

If yes, why would someone put more than one straight line graphs on the same graph?

In the event that the straight lines intersect, what does this signify?

How can one calculate that point to verify that the graph is accurate?

  1. Yes a graph can consist of more than one straight lines. For instance it could be a graph of supply and demand and if the two points intersect this would signify the equilibrium point.

  2. I agree with u lowrider but can it also contain curves along with any number of straight line

  3. i think when 2 straight lines intercept it means that they are common or have the same x or y coordinates at dat certain point

  4. to my understanding if the graphs are parallel they should have the same gradient or is it where they cut someone correct me if am worng plz

  5. when the graphs are straight lines which are parallel to each other then they will have the same gradient! however if its a curve we are taking about then it will not have the same gradient, since every point on a curve has a different gradient:)

  6. yeah there can be more than 1 straight line graphs on the same graphs that represent different things that are related.i think when 2 graphs intersect it means that those 2 graphs have a common point or so i think.

  8. way guys u all are gud.a graph can have more than one straight line as u all said and i totally agree with wat animichick said that the x and y co-ordinates at dat intersection wil b the same.wel not 2sure abt d las question...

  9. i think the answer for the last question is by using simultaneous equations. since the both graphs have a common point, we can equate their equations and find that common point. can someone plz correct me if im wrong or didnt answer the question

  10. So that you would be able to see a particular trend in two different sets of information. Somebody please help

  11. wel i now joining this thing and yea i think 2 straight line graphs can occur on the same graphs

  12. i also believe that when more than 1 graph are on the same page it means that the both gragh has the same or close to the same range of values and you can both compare and contrast the readings to get the answer to whatever question is asked. Atleast thats what i think.

  13. Yesss...a graph cud consist of more than one straight lines...i hav neva really thought of de reason y one wud put more than one line on a graph...wat i do know is dat it is for a relationship between the two...i agree wid Mysticwings that a curve has more dan one gradient cuz the change occcurs at different pts....yeh Mysticwings ur correct dat to find the pt is by simultaneous equations by equating the lines ..

  14. well if a graph is plotted with two straight lines to me the both must have some relationship and must be within the same range in order to be plotted.

  15. To me if these two lines intersect it means that for both at a specific point on one axis have the same value on the other axis. It must be in some sort of equilibrium for this to occur..

  16. I think if you calculate the gradient of both lines and they turn out to be the same then they should intersect one another..

  17. yes a graph can consits of more than one straight line

  18. well i guess that they are probably looking at different things, so they may wnt to kniow at what period they intersect

  19. when they intersect i guess this signifies that they are equal at one particular point

  20. to find out if it is accurate i suggest u find the gradient, because if they are equal they will have the asme gradient
